United Nations Days & Years Meditation Initiative

2008 International Year of Languages

Meditation Outline

Individuals and groups can help to make the International Year of Languages more effective through meditation and prayer. Here you will find a sample meditation outline, but you may prefer to create your own meditation outline. Click here for information on the Year and suggestions on how to participate in this Initiative.

Sit comfortably, alert and with the spine erect. Breathe quietly and regularly. Raise your consciousness to the centre between the eyebrows and without strain hold this focus.

Ponder the role of languages and the value of diversity, communication and right speech in the evolution of the universal spirit in humanity;

Silently say prayers, or words for unity, love or spirit in key languages in your environment, linking with their energies;

Give thanks for language as a gift, treasured by all people;

Link in love and solidarity with those facing threats to their mother tongue.

What's New

Hundreds of particpants from all over the world took part in an International Day of Peace Vigil on September 21st 2007. Every 15 minutes of the 24 hours they created a wave of invocations for a Culture of Peace and Goodwill in the world. This was just one contribution to a multitude of Peace Vigils taking place around the planet on September 21.
