United Nations Days & Years Meditation Initiative

2017 International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development

Meditation Outline

Individuals and groups can help to make the International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development more effective through meditation and prayer. Here you will find a sample meditation outline, but you may prefer to create your own meditation outline.Click here for information on the Year. Click for suggestions on how to participate in this Initiative.

Tourism accounts for one in every eleven jobs globally; 10% of the world GDP; 5% of world CO2 emissions and is the largest export category in many developing countries. Its impact on human development is significant.

Sustainable tourism: reduces the industry’s CO2 emissions; protects & restores biodiversity; conserves heritage, wildlife & environment; empowers local communities; and fosters cultural diversity, mutual understanding and peace.

The Year of Sustainable Tourism concentrates attention on ways in which this significant area of human activity can contribute to the global agenda for Sustainable Development with its 17 Goals aiming to end poverty, fight inequality and tackle climate change over the next 15 years.

Meditation on the Year of Sustainable Tourism can help to create an environment of clear, purposeful thought fostering right human relations.  It can contribute to the energising of the will to make progress on all 17 SDGS in the targeted area of tourism.

Sit comfortably, alert and with the spine erect. Breathe quietly and regularly. Raise your consciousness to the centre between the eyebrows and without strain hold this focus.
