Theme 2024: Reinforcing the 2030 Agenda and eradicating poverty in times of multiple crises: the effective delivery of sustainable, resilient and innovative solutions
This Forum has been established as the main UN body to review progress towards the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the SDGs. Its task is to provide political leadership, guidance and recommendations on the 2030 Agenda's implementation and follow-up; keep track of progress; spur coherent policies informed by evidence, science and country experiences; as well as address new and emerging issues.
The HLPF will also review in-depth Sustainable Development Goals: 1 on ending poverty, 2 on ending hunger, 13 on combatting climate change, 16 on peaceful and inclusive societies with strong istitutions to provide access to justice for all, and 17 on global partnerships to achieve the Goals.
The Sustainable Development Goals can only become a focus for the living will in humanity if and as people of goodwill in every sector of society are inspired to contribute towards their achievement. Governments will only act to the extent that people of goodwill want them to act. The Forum includes representatives of civil society as well as governments.
World Goodwill's Cycle of Conferences Visualisation initiative will place a focus on the Forum, relating the Forum's role in reviewing progress towards achievement of the goals of the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda to the spiritual understanding that a divine impulse towards synthesis and a new relationship between spirit and matter is pouring into the collective mind and heart of people and nations.... It is these incoming energies that are behind the growing effort to bring the spirit of the UN Charter and the visionary Declaration of Human Rights into greater prominence in the relations between nations and peoples.
The Unitive Cluster, a Major Group of NGO's, will be coordinating an informal side event at the Forum, on the theme 3 Pathways for SDG Innovation: Thriving Cultures, Interdependent Mindset & Light Heartedness

International Day of Friendship
United Nations International Day of Friendship highlights friendship as the fundamental glue uniting people across diverse cultures and backgrounds; an essential requirement in building the Culture of Peace and fundamental to the work of the United Nations.
The idea of friendship permeates the work and ideals of the United Nations. The Charter proclaims that one of the purposes of the Organization is "to develop friendly relations among nations". These same words appear in the preamble to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. UNESCO’s Constitution speaks of the need for peace based not just on the "political and economic arrangements of governments", but on the "intellectual and moral solidarity of mankind". And the UN Alliance of Civilizations initiative aims to improve cooperation and understanding among nations and peoples across cultures and religions, including to counter the forces that fuel extremism.
